Dr. Michelle Mathias, MA, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Michelle Mathias graduated with a B.Sc in Biopsychology at the University of British Columbia. She completed her medical training and Psychiatry residency training at the University of Ottawa. She then attained her sub-specialty training in Forensic Psychiatry and worked in the field for many years before choosing to return to her roots and true passion. Having completed her Masters in Sport Psychology, Dr. Mathias is well versed in mental performance techniques. She is keen to get athletes off the bench and back on the field so they can feel and perform at their best. An active member of the Canadian Association of Sport Psychiatry and the International Society of Sport Psychiatry, she is engaged in the Sport Psychiatry certification program and participates in the mentorship program among leaders in the field.
Throughout her training and work, Dr. Mathias has been actively involved in teaching and supervising medical students and residents, which helps ensure she remains current and up-to-date in the latest psychiatry treatments and therapies. She has been Site Education Director for General Psychiatry, Program Director for the Forensic Psychiatry Training Program and the Director of Education for the Forensic Program at the Royal. She is a francophone examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. An Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa, she is also the Director of the E.K. Koranyi Psychiatry Review Course, which is attended annually by psychiatry trainees across Canada and internationally.
