Our goal is to be an integral part of each patient’s rehabilitation team, with a focus on comprehensive care for sports injuries. Our physiotherapists, massage therapists, athletic therapists and strength and conditioning specialists to develop a collaborative approach to ensure that recovery and training work simultaneously in order to strengthen the entire body. Providing patients with education to develop total-body strength and balance which will help rehab and injury prevention.
As part of the recovery process, each patient will learn prehabilitation exercises to reduce the potential for future injury. These exercises will continue strengthening weakened areas, while improving flexibility and mobility while decreasing the risk of future injury.
The Sports Therapy Clinic is an ideal physiotherapy provider for patients rehabilitating from orthopedic surgery and for patients who wish to return to athletic competition, a highly active lifestyle, or a physically demanding work environment. The Sports Therapy Clinic provides rehabilitation for personal and sports injuries. We DO NOT provide physiotherapy for work and auto injuries.
No. Clients using private insurance to cover the cost of treatments will pay for the treatments in full at the time of the appointment. Receipts will be issued so that you can submit them to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Physiotherapy is a direct access health care service. Therefore a doctor’s referral is not required to access care. Some insurance providers may require a doctor’s referral before providing coverage. Consult your insurance provider to understand what is required by your plan.
Manual Therapy means “hands on” therapy. Techniques can include joint mobilizations and manipulation, soft tissue massage, myofascial release, muscle energy techniques and active release techniques.
Electrotherapy is treatments including: Ultrasound, Interferential Current (IFC), Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Electromuscular Stimulation (EMS), and Shockwave Therapy.
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is an acupuncture needling technique that is used to treat many pain conditions caused, or aggravated by tight and painful muscle bands, in particular, the nerve supplying these muscles. When IMS treatment is applied to the spinal muscles, release of muscle tension can result in decompression of spinal nerves and a reduction in pain in the regions of the body supplied by those nerves. Detailed knowledge of anatomy is required to ensure the precise placement of the needles and maximum effectiveness of the treatment. A comprehensive assessment by a physiotherapist is required to determine if IMS is a good treatment option for you. Please speak with reception if you are interested in booking an appointment with a physiotherapist for possible IMS treatment.
Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine involving the insertion of needles into the skin at specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to encourage natural healing, improve energy, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body.
Exercise Therapy involves designing and implementing an exercise program that is tailored specifically for you, to alleviate strain and optimize performance. We provide many different types of Exercise Therapy such as therapeutic exercises to promote healing; challenging exercises to prevent injury; general conditioning; on-field speed and agility training; athletic screening and posture improvement.
Please bring your valid health card, appropriate clothing (shorts for a lower extremity injury and sleeveless top for upper extremity injury), any reports of investigations already been done and a copy of the referral from your family physician (if applicable).
A sport medicine physician specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of athletic injuries with emphasis on patient care, education and research. A sport medicine physician has often undertaken additional training in the form of a fellowship year. While our primary care sport medicine physicians accept patients without a referral, if your family physician would like to be sent a consult report of our findings and copies of any imaging results, a referral would be greatly appreciated. Our orthopedic surgeon appointments are made by referral only.
