Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is an acupuncture needling technique that is used to treat many pain conditions caused, or aggravated by tight and painful muscle bands, in particular, the nerve supplying these muscles. When IMS treatment is applied to the spinal muscles, release of muscle tension can result in decompression of spinal nerves and a reduction in pain in the regions of the body supplied by those nerves. Detailed knowledge of anatomy is required to ensure the precise placement of the needles and maximum effectiveness of the treatment. A comprehensive assessment by a physiotherapist is required to determine if IMS is a good treatment option for you. Please speak with reception if you are interested in booking an appointment with a physiotherapist for possible IMS treatment.
