Baseline Concussion Testing

At the forefront of proper concussion management is the implementation of baseline and post-injury neurocognitive testing. ImPACT® Concussion Management Software is a sophisticated research-based software tool developed to help sports-medicine clinicians evaluate recovery following concussion for safe return to play. ImPACT® evaluates and documents multiple aspects of neurocognitive functioning including memory, brain processing speed, reaction time, post-concussive symptoms, and has an injury documentation system.

Carleton Sport Medicine Clinic has been designated a Credentialed ImPACT consultant clinic. Clinicians who have earned the title of Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC) have undergone specialized ImPACT training to offer state-of-the-art concussion care management to their patients. CICs are part of ImPACT’s national network of hundreds of healthcare providers who are leaders in clinical concussion care within their communities. Each CIC is an expert in utilizing ImPACT products and the ImPACT Concussion Care Model to diagnose and manage concussion injuries.

Carleton University is currently offering this service to all varsity athletes and now to the community and youth teams across the city.  Prior to the season, players may consider undergoing baseline concussion testing which takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Teams may consider group testing which can be organized by Dr. Taryn Taylor.  Both Team and individual testing can be arranged through Chantale Harty at medinfo@carletonsportmed.com or 613-520-3510.

Cost: $30.00 per athlete for supervised baseline test and $10.00 for  follow-up tests (if baseline already completed) after patient has sustained a concussion.

Education Session: A short education session is given to all groups undergoing group baseline testing prior to starting the neurocognitive test. A copy of the presentation can be found in English and French.

Location: Group testing is located in Room 402 of the Tory Building. Individual testing is done in the sport medicine clinic.
